What is a Transformational Coach?
An introduction to what a Transformational Coach offers, how their approach differs from other coaches, and what you can expect from a session.
A Transformational Coach offers holistic support so that an individual client may generate insights, identify opportunities for growth, and develop a map for moving forward.
Transformational Coaching is a deeply personal 1-on-1 relationship designed to investigate each individual's life experience, belief systems, values, and purpose. All this is undertaken to stimulate sustainable long-term change.
The Transformational Coach is your guide, supporting you in setting and achieving life goals. During the coaching process, you’ll have an opportunity to make compassionate inquiries about the ‘what’, ‘how’ and ‘why’ of events on your timeline. A Transformational Coach provides the nurturing environment to conduct this exploration.
How Does a Transformational Coach Differ From Other Coaches?
A Transformational Coach relies on a variety of methods to help you reach your goals.
Transformational Coaching offers an integrative and depth-oriented approach that focuses on the relationship between body, mind, emotion, social connections and consciousness. With the guidance of the coach, each individual reflects deeply on sensory, emotional, and relational patterns in order to create renewed understanding of their experience in the world.
Inviting this level of awareness into a person’s life offers a significant opportunity for transformative shifts, creating new patterns and belief systems that open up new paths to achieve goals.
At AWE Education, we leverage the following methods to build coaching programs:
- Polyvagal Theory
- Compassionate Inquiry
- Somatic Experience
- Internal Family Systems
- Agile Methodology
In some cases, when requested, we also rely on Energy Medicine as a core part of the transformational coaching process.
How Does a Transformational Coach Work?
First, a Transformational Coach supports you in building goals and desired outcomes.
Second, a Transformational Coach will guide an individual on an exploration of their life experience, their view of themself, and their relationships with others/the world. This exploration includes inquiries into belief systems, values, use of language, and the stories individuals live with.
Third, a Transformational Coach provides a compassionate space to reflect on life and its experiences. Diving into root cause and wound territory requires a great deal of kindness and nurturing. Sometimes the experiences we discover take time to understand and appreciate. So, the coach provides tools and emotional support to make core wounds into beloved friends. These friends can teach individuals so much about why they do what they do, and how they can chose to respond going forward. This nurturing approach is deeply transformative unto itself.
Fourth, a Transformational Coach brings the exploration back to the intended outcomes. What issues have been addressed that make the goal more attainable? Do we need to revise the goal to make it more accessible in the short term? How can we take our exploration and leverage it to experience change here and now? The coach uses this curiosity to support you, so that you can leave a session and go back into life feeling whole and supported.
What Does a Session with a Transformational Coach Involve?
A transformational coach builds a strong personal connection with each client. At the start of each session, the coach and client will check in. These check-ins provide an opportunity to discuss recent experiences and reexamine goals.
Practically every session will address very personal life events and experiences. This level of sharing is only prompted when the coach understands that the client feels safe and heard. Then, and only then, will the coach encourage the client to explore with a sense of curiosity.
Guided exploration reveals deeply personal experiences that may sometimes feel hard to digest. The coach is watching the client’s body language, looking for physical responses to the inquiries, and providing cues to guide the client into accessible lines of inquiry. When the coach notices any level of rigidity, the coach invites exploration from a point of pain toward a point of curiosity.
By creating a safe space for exploration, the transformational coach is slowly allowing the client to address their habits, self-image, attitude, and perceived limitations with love. These patterns developed as an adaptive capacity, and will only become accessible when they are befriended.
Working with a transformational coach supports individuals to address the past, and to plan for a renewed life. This style of coaching is deeply curious, nurturing…and transformative.
How Would I Benefit From Working with a Transformational Coach?
A transformational coach supports individuals in un-sticking themselves. If you have big dreams, dreams that feel unattainable, transformational coaching could be for you.
Realizing our dreams - and even taking exploratory steps in that direction - can reveal a whole new worldview. A transformational coach specializes in guiding these explorations, helping individuals to make plans, and supports individuals in making hard changes.
